Elon Reeve Musk was born 28 June 1971 in Pretoria, South Africa. He is chief executive of Space Exploration Technologies and Tesla, and a leading figure behind xAI, X, Neuralink and The Boring Company.

SpaceX was founded in 2002 to cut the cost of access to orbit and to make Mars a reachable destination. The company now flies Falcon, Dragon and Starlink at operational cadence, with Starship in development at Starbase, Texas.

In June 2026 SpaceX completed the largest U.S. IPO on record, listing Class A shares on Nasdaq as SPCX at $135. Tesla remains a separate public company under TSLA.
